Renal failure

After 10 days in the hospital, my mom was finally discharged late on Wednesday.  On top of many health issues, her kidney is failing.

I went to visit yesterday, hoping to get her to eat and drink something.

She was all wrapped up in her bed covers, but awake and seemed happy enough to have company.  Usually though, there is a spark to my mother…even with all she has been through…a snarky spark.  On this day though, she just stared at the ceiling.

Me – What are you thinking about?

Mom – Nothing.

Me – You must be thinking about something.

Mom – I try not to think anymore.

Me – Why not?

Mom – Because nothing ever happens the way I want it to.

Acute renal failure often does not cause noticeable symptoms.  Hospital tests done for other problems may also detect kidney failure.  For information on symptoms, visit http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/acute-renal-failure-symptoms.
